One Down, Thirty-Nine to Go

Giving advice is my specialty. Giving unsolicited advice is the bane of my existence. Except, this time I seemed to work out for the best.

Last Saturday, I was putzing around online and sent a message to a rock star. Well, okay, Javier. I mentioned that it would be fun to have message boards on his web site. Then I commented on the layout. The background. The frames. The colors. Unsolicited advice at its best.

I wrapped up the e-mail with the usual disclaimer: hey, just my opinions here, let me know if you need more information about the message boards, etc, etc.

Today Javier and I had a meeting to talk about completely revamping his site.

EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Not that I’m excited or anything. When I’m going to have time to do it is another story, but hey. I still have my 40 goals by age 40 list (40×40), and this successfully completes one. “Become a part of the music industry in some form or fashion.”

My head is still spinning.

I really enjoyed sitting down with Javier, too. It was nice to get the air cleared a little. He asked me if I’d talked to Max lately, which nearly made my eyes pop out of my head. I was like, “um.. no.” He seemed pretty surprised. I asked if he had. He said he hadn’t talked to him in a year and a half. Aaah. Even more made sense at that point. But whatever, we just let it go. Beyond that, though, it was fun to share my excitement of the band with someone - even if that “someone” was the lead singer! The whole time we talked I was vigorously nodding my head and smiling, because he has big plans and I love it.

When he asked me to take over as webmaster, I was a little stunned.

My initial reaction was, woah. Me? Then it was, woah. Time? Then it was, woah. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I had to swear a solemn oath that I’d be on board for a year at least, and I did. Why not? This is what I’ve always wanted to do. Be a geek AND be involved with music.

I was just looking at my schedule and have decided that I’m going to have to seriously knuckle down on my time. I like to give myself some F-O time, time to play. Now I’ll play and work at the same time!

Grinning broadly,
