When I was little, my mom used to tell me that the best way to make someone annoying go away is to just ignore them. My mom was usually right. Anyway, that’s just an aside.

Everything is in “countdown” mode. I’m counting down my last days at work. I’m counting down my last days as a mom to only a nine-year-old. I wish I were counting down my last nights of sleepfulness (is that even a word?) but I’m already only sleeping an hour or so at a time.

People keep asking me if I’m excited, and I tell them yes, mostly. I mean, I’m excited to have a new baby and all, but to get there I have to go through labor, which I have to say I’m not looking forward to. I’ve done everything I can to make sure this labor doesn’t go the way of Justin’s, but … really, what do I know?

I only know this baby is somewhat smaller, with a somewhat smaller head circumference, which eases my mind. I also know that this baby will not be allowed to hang out in me until he’s 41 weeks (a week overdue) like Justin did. But! There’s still that whole labor thing. (I am such a baby!)

The house is looking really great. I’ve been cleaning nonstop and it’s starting to show. The nursery also looks great - I never thought it would be finished, but it’s just about there! We waited several weeks to for new rods for the crib to arrive, and we received them Friday. Now the crib is finished and the painting is finished and the only thing left to do is have the carpets cleaned!

I’m a big procrastinator when it comes to the “big things,” like having carpets cleaned. Not that it is painful or anything, but I’ve dreaded moving all the furniture and waiting for it to dry and all that. When I moved into the house five years ago (nearly to the day!) I had new carpet installed in all the rooms. It’s not that I had money to blow, but the carpet that was already there was awful and I’m not a big fan of hardwood floors. So.

Now, when I spill something and try to clean it up, it leaves big “clean spots” - obviously the carpet is slightly dirty on its own. So, after putting it off a few years (!), I found no time like the present. Carpet cleaners will be here in the morning!

I guess the plan should be to hang tight til the baby arrives. That should be easier said than done. Keep your fingers crossed.

Tick tock,
