Breathing

Tonight was the first night that S. and I could just sit and not do anything. The house has officially been on the market for six days, and is cleaner than I’ve ever seen it. Justin was at Dan’s, and the baby was exhausted from no sleep at the sitter’s (again). So we sat, watched some version of Law and Order, and did nothing. It was amazing.

I feel like I’ve been busy every minute of every day for months. I guess I have. The house has eaten up every spare second and I’m really hoping it’s worth it. So far, we’ve had one showing, and that was this evening. That’s pretty disappointing from my view - especially when keeping it pristine every single day is a ton of work. I can’t imagine what I’m going to do if it’s on the market for 60 or 90 days.

Example: this morning Ryan woke up at 6:30a, so I decided 6:45a sounded like a good time to rake leaves. We raked on Tuesday evening, but of course the wind blew like the devil overnight Tuesday and blew about 1,000,000 oak leaves to the ground. They were nearly up to my ankles as I walked through the yard. So, from 6:45a to 8a I was raking, and S. was collecting and dumping (don’t ask). Then I ran inside, took a shower, cleaned like a madwoman and left the house. This has been my life.

The amazing aspect of it all is that you can see the floors. All of them - including the den. I’m still looking around in disbelief.

Sunday is our first open house. Justin wants to spy on people who visit. He also has a little of his mom (the salesperson/marketer) in him: he thinks it would be great to drive down the hill and around the cul de sac (in front of our house) over and over again while people are here so they think we are getting lots of traffic looking at the house. I swear, I don’t teach him this stuff!

Lots of little things going on: the dog was sick, but now he’s (mostly) better. Ryan is getting more proficient at the army-crawl and has two teeth. Justin had all B’s and an A on his report card - major goodness! I have lost 10 pounds (and need to lose 25 more). Stephen has decided to “give up control” of Diary-X and make it open-sourced (and I had NO say in that decision whatsoever). The new house has siding and brick and shingles and electrical and plumbing and ethernet and phone wiring and windows and a driveway and a curvy front walk and everything! They are estimating a December 27th close, which is only 47 days away!

It’s too weird, this sitting-and-writing thing.
