And the Winner Is...

We got the puppy! We picked Everest, the black one with the white face. He's so adorable!

Just as I suspected, you can't just choose a dog from a photograph and know he's for you. From the photos here, it would have been a tough call. Enoch was the prettiest of the three. Elliot was the runt, and not particularly pretty.

The personalities actually clinched it. I picked up Elliot first, and he gave me enthusiastic kisses - all over my face. A bit later, the puppies headed toward a lake in the park. All three ran toward it. Everest got distracted on the way; Enoch freaked out at the edge; and Elliot? He dove in headfirst. What a rascal!

Enoch, the pretty one, was terribly shy, even a little lethargic. I was afraid he'd have a tough time adjusting to the family, especially since our family is growing and getting rowdier by the minute. It was an easy choice to make.

Everest was the happy medium. When I picked him up, he just looked at me for a few minutes, then reached up and licked my face a couple times. He reacted like a normal cocker spaniel to most situations - a little spacey, but with a happy, active personality.

I was enchanted.

Everest came home with us. On the way home, his name was changed to Elliot, keeping with the new family "tradition" of naming dogs after television detectives. Det Elliot Stabler of Law and Order SVU received this honor.

So far, Elliot has proven to be a typical puppy. It's amazing how much like a baby they are. Bayliss seems to hate him, but I'm sure time will tell.

New adventures begin,
michelle
